US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Sunday that US forces carried out “air strikes on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and groups allied with Iran in response to attacks on American soldiers in Iraq and Syria.”
Austin added, according to Archyde.com, that “the two strikes targeted a training facility and a safe house near the cities of Al-Bukamal and Al-Mayadin.”
He continued, “President (Joe Biden) has no more important priority than the safety of American soldiers, and he issued an order to launch an attack today to make clear that America will defend itself, its soldiers, and its interests.”
Earlier on Sunday, an American official said that the United States carried out two air strikes in Syria on groups allied with Iran, according to what was reported by Archyde.com.
The official added that one of the targets of the two US strikes was a command and control facility, and the other was a weapons storage facility.
On Wednesday, the US Department of Defense, the Pentagon, confirmed that an air strike had been carried out on a facility in eastern Syria.
The Pentagon said, “US forces carried out a strike in self-defense on a facility in eastern Syria.”
He pointed out that “the American strikes targeted facilities used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and the groups it supports.”
He explained that the strike came “in response to attacks by militants affiliated with the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on American forces in Iraq and Syria.”
