US Agency: Biden Ignored the Impact of the Floating Dock in Opening Gaza Crossings

United States – USAID said President Joe Biden ignored its concerns that the construction of the floating dock “diminishes the agency’s call to open land crossings” to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

The agency indicated in a report published yesterday, Tuesday, that officials of the United Nations World Food Program stipulated the construction of the pier in the north of the Strip, but the US Department of Defense built it in the central areas of the coast.

She explained that “the security requirements of the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) and Israel prevented the agency’s efforts to deliver food and other aid to Gaza via the sidewalk.”

She said agency staff had expressed concern that using the sidewalk would “diminish the agency’s call for the opening of land crossings, which are more effective for delivering aid to refugees in Gaza.”

The $230 million floating dock, funded by the United States and implemented by the US military, has faced difficulties and has been disrupted several times.

The floating dock, which opened in mid-May, was used to bring humanitarian aid into Gaza by sea, but international organizations and official Palestinian bodies have repeatedly confirmed that the aid that entered through it represents only a small percentage of the needs of the Strip.
