The United States (US) and 10 Latin American countries on Friday (23/8) issued a joint statement to reject the announcement of the Venezuelan Supreme Court’s validation of the 2024 election results that won Nicolas Maduro as president.

“The governments of Argentina, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, the United States, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominica and Uruguay categorically reject the announcement by the Supreme Court of Venezuela indicating that it has completed the alleged verification of the results of the July 28 electoral process by the National Electoral Council and seeks to
validate results that are not supported by the electoral body,” the statement said.

The countries stressed that only an independent and impartial audit of the vote would ensure respect for the popular, sovereign and democratic will of the Venezuelan people.

In addition, the signatories of the joint statement will continue to emphasize the need to respect the clearly and peacefully expressed will of the Venezuelan people.

Earlier on July 29, the National Electoral Council declared that Nicolas Maduro had won 51% of the vote for the 2025-2031 presidential term.

The Venezuelan government says a number of countries have interfered in the country’s presidential elections and affected the Venezuelan people’s right to self-determination. (Ant/Z-2)
