Uruguay takes third place in the 2024 Copa América

The Uruguayan team took third place in the Copa America 2024by defeating Canada on penalties, this Saturday, July 13.

The match was tied 2-2 in regulation time, so it had to be decided from the 12 steps.

The sky-blue team was in charge of opening the scoring in the 8th minute, through Rodrigo Bentancur, who made it 1-0.

Then Ismaël Koné appeared to equalise for the Canadians, sending the ball into the back of the net in the 22nd minute.

The first half of this match ended with the score at 1-1.

Already in the second half, at minute 80, Canada went ahead thanks to a goal by Jonathan David, to fill his team with glory.

But, at 90+2, the “charrúa claw” appeared to tie the game with a goal courtesy of Luis Suarez, thus sending the match to penalties.

In the penalty shoot-out, the Uruguayans managed to emerge victorious 4-3 to take third place in the competition.

The grand final of the Copa América “United States 2024” will be this Sunday, July 15, between Argentina and Colombia, at 8:00 p.m., Venezuelan time.
