“Our population is aging, and it is therefore more important than ever to invest in healthy aging”, she declared during a press conference on Monday April 24 before pointing out the need for “put in place a national vaccination plan targeting this population group”.
On the occasion of European Immunization Week, which takes place from 24 to 30 April, it joins forces with the Adult Immunization Board (AiB) to call on governments to action.
“With a clear vaccination plan for the elderly, great progress can already be made” to increase vaccination coverage in adults, said Prof. Pierre Van Damme, co-president of the AiB. “There are currently several vaccines protecting the elderly once morest various diseases such as influenza, pneumococcus, Covid-19, shingles” and other infections. “Let’s include all these vaccines in a comprehensive plan for older generations in Europe (…), to increase vaccination coverage among them,” he said on behalf of the AiB.
