To try to stem infections, a vaccination campaign was launched in schools in the province.

For the president of the Montreal Association of School Directors, Kathleen Legault, the situation is most pressing.

“What we understand is that there is a race once morest time to protect as many students and staff members as possible to avoid contagion,” she said.

According to Ms. Legault, it was important to act quickly, whereas a late response would have meant a real headache for school staff.

“If there are confirmed cases in our establishments, it will be a lot more work, we will have to remove students, remove staff,” she explained.

According to a recent study by Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, the risk of a measles epidemic is high in the country. A single case of measles might indeed infect 16 people.
