Palestinian Ministry of Health spokesman Ashraf Al-Qudra said on Saturday that failure to immediately bring fuel into hospitals in the Gaza Strip would pose a real danger to the wounded and sick.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed that 7 hospitals and 25 health centers were out of service due to targeting and running out of fuel.
She added: “Gaza Strip hospitals have completely dried up their resources due to the lack of the most basic emergency treatment supplies, including fuel. We appeal to the international community and Egypt to work immediately to bring in fuel and emergency health needs before more victims are lost inside hospitals.”
The Israeli army confirmed that the humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip will only go to the southern areas of the Strip, which are the areas to which Israel urged Palestinian civilians to avoid the ongoing fighting with Hamas.
In a televised press conference, army spokesman Daniel Hagari said that the aid shipments would not include fuel.
Trucks carrying humanitarian relief materials that were stuck in Egypt entered the Gaza Strip on Saturday through the Rafah land crossing following days of diplomatic wrangling over the conditions for delivering aid.
Egyptian television showed footage showing trucks entering the border area of the Rafah crossing from the Egyptian side.
The Rafah crossing is the main route into and out of the Gaza Strip, which is not controlled by Israel, and the hub for delivering aid to Gaza’s 2.3 million residents.
The United Nations has warned of a “humanitarian catastrophe” in Gaza, where food is running out and the fuel supply needed to keep hospital power generators running has reached dangerously low levels.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited the border on Friday to push the entry of aid, saying that work is still underway on a mechanism to inspect aid requested by Israel.
