Urgent Initiatives Unveiled to Draw NHS Physicians to Underserved Regions

Mr. Georgiadis published in “X” the Joint Ministerial Decision that he co-signed with Kostis Hatzidakis and sent for publication in the Official Gazette. Doctors/dentists of the NHS branch who serve in health facilities, which are based in problematic and barren areas of category A’, are paid a monthly financial incentive to attract and stay in the amount of €300, and in problematic and barren areas of category B’ are paid a monthly financial incentive to attract and stay in the amount of €200.

To the doctors of the NHS branch of the specialties: internal pathology, general/family medicine, pediatrics, anesthesiology, nephrology, pathological anatomy, radiology, medical biopathology/laboratory medicine, child and adolescent psychiatry, cytology, pathological oncology, as well as b) the specialties of pulmonology- tuberculosis, neurosurgery, neurology, surgery, children’s surgery, thoracic surgery and cardiology who serve in adult/children’s ICUs, a monthly financial incentive of three hundred and 300 euros is paid in addition to the previous ones, as long as they serve in a problematic and infertile area of ​​category A and b) in addition to previously a financial incentive of 200 euros, as long as they serve in a problematic and barren category B area.

Today, doctors who serve in a barren area of ​​category A receive an annual financial incentive of €800-1000, while in an area of ​​category B they receive an annual financial incentive of €500. Notably, it was calculated as an increase on the basic salary in force on 31.12.1996.

With the new MLA signed today: (a) Doctors/dentists of the NHS sector who serve in health structures, which are based in problematic and barren areas of category A’, will receive, in addition to their basic salary, €3,600 gross per year and in case where the doctor holds one of the 18 specialties, €7,200. (b) Doctors/dentists of the NHS branch who serve in health facilities, which are based in problematic and barren areas of category B, will receive, in addition to their basic salary, €2,400 gross per year and in case the doctor holds one of the 18 specialties €4,800.

So we respond with actions and not with words to the existing problem of lack of human resources, especially in the Regional Health structures of the NHS. We are doubling for 18 medical specialties and tripling for all the rest the monthly allowance and we are immediately proceeding with the announcement of vacant organic positions in all critical areas.
