Amal Allam wrote Tuesday, October 24, 2023 05:34 PM confirmed Global Health OrganizationIt is still unable to distribute fuel and basic health supplies necessary to save lives in major hospitals in northern Gaza due to the lack of necessary security guarantees, calling for an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons so that health supplies and fuel can be safely delivered to all parts of the Gaza Strip.

Among the facilities awaiting the organization’s supplies and fuel in northern Gaza is Al-Shifa Hospital, whose bed occupancy rate has approached 150%. As for the Indonesian Hospital, it was forced yesterday to stop some vital services due to a lack of fuel, and it is now operating with limited capacity. There is also the Turkish Friendship Hospital. It is the only oncology hospital in the Gaza Strip, which is no longer fully operational due to a lack of fuel, putting regarding 2,000 cancer patients at risk.

In addition to the hospitals that were forced to close due to damage and attacks, six hospitals have so far stopped operating across the Gaza Strip due to fuel shortages. Unless critical supplies of fuel and more health supplies are quickly delivered to Gaza, thousands of patients will die. The vulnerable will be threatened by death or medical complications due to the cessation of vital services due to the lack of electricity. Among these, there are 1,000 patients who depend on dialysis, 130 premature babies who need different forms of care, and patients in intensive care or who need surgery, and their survival depends on Availability of electricity.

Yesterday, the organization, with support from UNRWA, delivered 34,000 liters of fuel to four main hospitals in southern Gaza and to the Palestine Red Crescent Society to support the ambulance services it provides, but this quantity is only sufficient to continue the operation of ambulances and vital functions in hospitals for 24 hours or A little more.

Some of the medicines and health supplies provided by the organization were received by four major hospitals in southern Gaza, as well as the Palestine Red Crescent Society, for distribution to two of its health facilities and ambulance crews. The WHO teams delivering the supplies say health workers were so relieved that the supplies arrived, taking boxes of them from trucks directly to operating rooms where doctors were performing surgeries without anesthesia or other basic surgical supplies.

The people of Gaza are living in a miserable situation, and it will reach the point of disaster unless more fuel, health supplies and humanitarian aid can continue to be delivered safely. The organization reiterates its call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in order to safely deliver health supplies and fuel to all Gaza hospitals.
