A group of undocumented people and their supporters have embarked on the occupation of a new building located on Avenue Emile De Mot in Brussels, they announced on Saturday

The action is led by the collective of Sans-Papiers Bénévoles Intégrés de Bruxelles (CSPBIB) and other people from civil society.

“Faced with the housing crisis which affects many isolated, homeless and undocumented people in our city, we are launching an urgent appeal for solidarity from the local community and the authorities”; explained Swann Gros, the spokesperson for the collective.

“It is essential to understand that many people in this group, including families with children, are facing very difficult situations. The occupation is not only a means of obtaining housing but also of putting forward a political project to obtain regularization for all undocumented people,” he added.

“We urge the current government to finally take its responsibilities and put in place a real regularization policy that recognizes the human value of those who live in fear of being deported. Belgium is capable of giving this minimum of dignity to undocumented people, which requires regularization on the basis of clear, permanent criteria that respect fundamental human rights,” concluded the spokesperson.
