The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an alert on Thursday urging healthcare providers to increase vaccination coverage once morest influenza, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
The health authority said low vaccination rates combined with the continued rise in respiratory illnesses might lead to more severe illness and increased strain on health care capacity in the coming weeks.
Health care providers should recommend antiviral medications for influenza and COVID-19 for all eligible patients, especially older adults and people with certain underlying medical conditions, the CDC says.
Over the past four weeks, hospitalizations across all age groups increased 200 percent for influenza, 51 percent for COVID-19 and 60 percent for RSV, according to CDC data.
