Al-Marsad newspaper: The Egyptian Minister of Health, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, called for the exception of doctors and nursing from Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly’s decision regarding the periods of secondments and special leave without pay to work abroad.
Reason for requesting an exception
According to Cairo 24, a government source said that the Acting Minister of Health’s request to the Prime Minister is due to the severe shortage of doctors and medical staff in Egypt.
He added, that the crisis of doctors’ emigration and the shortage of numbers are also among the reasons for requesting an exception, as the Egyptian Medical Syndicate indicated that regarding 12,000 doctors resigned from 2019 to 2022, while unofficial statistics indicate that the numbers are much higher than the announced; Which causes a crisis in the Egyptian health sector.
For his part, Ahmed Hussein, a member of the Medical Syndicate Council, said that every day 11 doctors resign from government work, in addition to the fact that there are 150,000 doctors outside Egypt.
Prime Minister’s decision
It is worth noting that Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, issued a decision published in the Official Gazette in its issue of May 22, 2022, to release periods of secondment and special leave without pay to work abroad for employees subject to the provisions of the Civil Service Law, workers in public sector companies, and workers in service and economic bodies. As well as employees of companies in which the state has a controlling stake, and national press organizations.
