DAgmar Pathenhauer and Manuela Kanzler competed in the Ironman in Kalmar and qualified for the World Championships in October.

With Dagmar Pathenhauer and Manuela Kanzler, two athletes from the URC Langenlois competed in the tenth edition of the Ironman Sweden in Kalmar. The competition is known for its flat and fast running and cycling routes. The weather showed its rough side on the day of the Ironman. Strong wind and fog made it difficult to complete the 3.8-kilometer swim in the Baltic Sea. At the end of the first discipline, Chancellor and Pathenhauer were almost level.

The total of 180 kilometers on the bike was largely completed on Öland, the rest on the mainland around Kalmar. The highlight is the six kilometer long bridge to Öland, which is otherwise closed to cyclists. The second discipline also proved to be a real challenge due to the gusts of wind, Kanzler coped better with it and switched to running shoes before Pathenhauer. In the final marathon, the latter was in the lead and finished in just over 12 hours, while Kanzler crossed the finish line in a little less than twelve and a half hours. With the results, both athletes managed to get a coveted slot for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii in October. While Chancellor declined with thanks, Pathenhauer happily accepted the qualifying spot.
