On the road to success in urban mobility: 5 tips for creating a good transport platform

Almost 9 million Brazilians are unemployed, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). To overcome this moment, many people are betting on entrepreneurship and one of the sectors that stands out in this search is urban mobility.

Transport apps have become a good alternative both for those who want to work as drivers – there are already more than 1 million in the country, according to the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA), and for those looking to start a business, creating their own app. A survey by Gaudium, a technology company with solutions for the mobility and logistics sectors, showed that, last year alone, mobility platforms moved more than R$900 million in Brazil.

Specialist lists precautions for those who want to undertake urban mobility and stand out in the market

Ricardo Góes, executive partner of Joyowner of Machine, software for creating mobility and logistics applications, whose passenger transport platforms were objects of study in the aforementioned research, states that there is still space to undertake in this field and it is promising, but success depends on a good market study first.

“It is essential to carefully study the region in which you intend to operate, local needs and their particularities. Carry out a market study, see the number of inhabitants, the means of transport that exist in the municipalities, tourist attractions, competition, movement and income. All of this is important when it comes to knowing whether or not it is worth undertaking urban mobility in that region”, advises the executive.

To help those who plan to start a business in the area, Ricardo offers five tips.

1- Do some research

Before starting a business, analyze the population of the city in which you want to operate. Do a search or use existing searches. It is important to identify whether people have difficulty using public transport, what fares they think are fair, what benefits they expect from an app and whether they already use this type of service with the competition. Share the survey on social media so that as many people respond as possible. The answers will help guide your decisions.

2- Understand the needs of drivers

After filtering the region of operation and carrying out market research, it is necessary to understand the needs of drivers, how they act, think, what they would like to have different in their app, in relation to others, desired benefits, among other points . Also highlight advantages and disadvantages of other applications available in the region. In other words, create a bond with your potential collaborators, as this will pave the way for a good relationship and
partnership.

3- Use a good technology infrastructure

To successfully get the idea off the ground, you need to invest in technology. One of the main points when creating an urban mobility application is a good technology infrastructure, which offers security, stability and good operability, with resources such as geolocation, different payment methods, evaluation system, among other things. Choose the right company to create the application, one that has good partner connections and can provide the necessary support for your business.

4- Offer benefits

To differentiate your app from others, offer benefits for both drivers and passengers. Partner with local establishments and get discounts and promotions for your audience and employees.

5- Promote the app

Plan the promotion of your app and set aside a budget for it. First, create an advertisement aimed at drivers to register on the platform. Then, focus on promoting it to passengers. Also ask local traders to promote your service and, as a reward, give them discounts on rides. Also don’t forget that word of mouth has power. Therefore, ensure the quality of the service, to get good reviews and build your reputation.

On top of Joy

A Joy, owner of Machine, is a technology company created in 2011 by computer scientist Bruno Muniz and engineer Ricardo Góes. Today, the startup is focused on the mobility and logistics markets, and has already participated in two Endeavor Scale Up Acceleration Programs. In 2022 it was elected the 2nd best small company to work for in Rio de Janeiro by GPTW. In addition to Machine, the company owns 55content, a content portal about technology, business, mobility and logistics.
