Urabá is left without National Games, the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro, announced which will be the venues for the 2027 games.
The 2027 National and Paralympic Games and the 2028 Youth Games already have venues to host their XXIII, VII and II editions, respectively, in Sucre and Córdoba.
The President, together with the Minister of Sports, Luz Cristina López Trejos, informed the elected departments of their choice.
In their speech, they highlighted the teamwork carried out to organize the multi-sport event.
The 2027 National and Paranational Games and the 2028 Youth Games promise to be memorable as they will take place one year after the centenary of the 1st National Games.
Sports Minister Luz Cristina López Trejos said that “as a ministry we are very pleased to see how territories increasingly want to leverage their development processes through sport.”
The official also indicated that “we are sure that this will be an opportunity to develop sports and leverage many other issues through these games in these territories,” she added.
Three phases of technical evaluation were completed by the Ministry of Sport’s verification committee.
The first was the nomination of candidates, which ended on July 8, 2024; the second was the presentation of these candidates, which took place at the Sports Village of the Ministry of Sports.
Finally, the third phase was the verification visits, carried out between July and August, which ultimately included an evaluation of the seven candidates.
Other candidates for the National Games
In addition to the chosen one, proposals were presented from the departments of La Guajira and Cesar; Arauca, Casanare, Meta and Boyacá; Santander; Antioquia; Nariño and Tolima.
The assessment process included verification of infrastructure, accommodation, food, medical care and basic sanitation.
Likewise, internal and inter-municipal roads, accessibility for people with reduced mobility, transportation, connectivity, safety conditions and administrative and financial capacity.
Córdoba and Sucre are once again hosting a multi-sport event together. In 2021, both departments joined forces to organize the National Sea and Beach Games.
Likewise, in 2012, Córdoba was also one of the venues for the 19th edition of the National Games and the 3rd edition of the Paranational Games.
