The organization representing the interests of companies in the transport and logistics sector, UPTR, advocates the dismantling of bpost. The postal company should transform into a public entity for universal service, while logistics and parcel delivery services should continue as a private player, can we read in Litter.
The sector federation is particularly concerned regarding the plan of competent minister Petra De Sutter to introduce a statutory minimum wage for parcel deliverers. According to the UPTR, this measure would give bpost a definite advantage.
“Bpost pays lower wages than private companies. The group has a competitive advantage which would be reinforced if the principle of a minimum wage were enshrined in law”, declared Michaël Reul, secretary general of the UPTR. Bpost also benefiting from other advantages, such as the exemption from VAT, the splitting of its activities and the privatization of the “parcels” division might create fairer conditions of competition, according to the UPTR.
