THE ACTION of planting banana trees on damaged roads was carried out by residents of Mekarsari Village, Ngamprah District, West Bandung Regency as a form of protest. Damaged roads have been left without repair for a long time.

Ironically, the damaged road point is not far from the complex
West Bandung Regency Government offices. There are two gaping holes where residents deliberately planted banana trees.

Some other damaged roads were filled with coral and gravel so as not to endanger road users. This initiative was carried out by residents because accidents often occur on Jalan Raya Mekarsari.

“This action was taken so that the government knows that this road is damaged
endanger. Apart from that, road users can also avoid it
hole,” said a resident, Asep, Friday (19/4).

He stated that almost every time motorbike riders fall or slip due to potholes.

“Last incident, a small child had an accident here.
“Yesterday, a motorbike rider broke his arm,” he explained.

Residents once repaired the road with improvised materials but it didn’t last
a long time because it was eroded by rain. Asep stated that the government should immediately intervene to prevent more victims.

Chairman of RW 03 Mekarsari Village, Herdi Herdiansyah, expressed the complaint
Road damage is often discussed during meetings with sub-district officials. However, until now there has been no response.

“The length of the damaged road is around 500 meters, it’s been around 4 years or so
repaired. “Complaints have been made many times but have not been responded to.”
he said.

The residents’ frustration mounted, they finally planted banana trees in the middle of the damaged roads to get the government’s attention.

“Roads in other areas have been repaired, while those near the office
the district government even left it alone. Even though officials pass by here every day,”
he said.
