“We finish on the kneecaps, we gave everything at the start to finish as we might,” said Jovian Hediger following his 8th place in the final of the Olympics in the team sprint, alongside Jonas Baumann.
There was bound to be emotion for the Vaudois, who was competing on the Beijing side of the last major race of his career on Wednesday, twelve years following his debut at the highest level.
“In these Games, my results are not exactly what I had hoped for (22nd in the individual sprint and therefore 8th in the teams). But in the end, I remember all my years on the circuit. They were marked by ups and downs. Today we went to get what we had to. We made the right choices, we had the right equipment. Tonight we will drink a good big beer.”
The best individual result of Jovian Hediger (31 years old) in a major competition (Olympics and Worlds) is his 11th place in sprint at the Lahti Worlds in 2017. In the World Cup, he has a 4th and 5th place in individual sprint and a team sprint podium a year ago in Sweden.
