Upper Austrian Monastery Concerts: A Celebration of Baroque and Classic Music

2023-07-31 04:20:00

The 50th Upper Austrian monastery concerts under the direction of Rico Gulda ended with two concerts by the Italian baroque orchestra Europa Galante in the marble hall of the St. Florian monastery near Linz. The monasteries of St. Florian, Kremsmünster, Lambach and Wilhering became the stage for the 17 concerts. The historic Feigenhaus in Kremsmünster and the Theaterstadel in Wilhering proved to be newly tested performance spaces.

The new section “Landpartie” supplemented the previous baroque and classic track. This year’s performers also included a series of monastery concert premieres. The young South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim, the Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko, cellist Raphaela Gomes, the French “Quatuor Ébène” and the Italian baroque specialists Europa Galante made their debut in Upper Austria with their founder and soloist Fabio Biondi.

The OO. The Bruckner Orchestra Linz has been faithful to monastery concerts for 46 years, and its chief conductor Markus Poschner conducted his orchestra for the first time ten years ago at the monastery concerts. The “King’s Singers” were guests in St. Florian for the first time 30 years ago, violinist Julian Rachlin has been associated with the series for 25 years.
