2023-04-18 10:00:00

Many citizens of Nivelles and Genappe have reported the malfunctions of certain preventive radars. Malfunctions due to their now obsolete technology.

The cost of their repair was higher than that of a complete replacement and, if it is less aggressive than an immediate perception in the letterbox, the preventive radar nevertheless encourages the motorist to respect the speed limit and the calls for more vigilance.

“So that today, it is no longer possible to do without him, indicates the Nivelles-Genappe police zone in a press release. On the initiative of the mayors of Nivelles and Genappe, we looked . with the Mobility services of the two cities, on the replacement of defective machines and on the installation of new preventive radars.”

Work began in April and road users have already seen that 11 faulty speed cameras have been replaced by speed signs. In green, the limitation is respected. in red, it is not.

“Small particularity, the radar emits a flash, but does not take a photo, so there is no fine, De what to remind the driver of what awaits him if he drives too fast.”

For Nivelles, these radars are in the streets Fief du Rognon and Auguste Levêque (zone 30), chaussées de Charleroi, Mons and Wavre (Zone 50) and Chemin de Fontaine l’Evéque (Zone 70).

For Genappe: in the streets Croisette (which has 2 preventive radars), Nivelles, Reine Astrid and the chaussée de Nivelles (zone 50).

Eventually, 19 other preventive speed cameras will be placed in locations determined by a study by the mobility services of the towns of Nivelles and Genappe, all for a total cost of approximately €75,000.

The next phase of installation is scheduled for September 2023. But it is not until 2024 that all the new machines will have been installed.
