The proposal for the appointment of KBS president, originally scheduled for today (the 4th), was canceled.
The KBS Board of Directors announced that at today’s extraordinary board meeting, they attempted to select the final candidate following interviewing three candidates, including former Munhwa Ilbo editorial writer Park Min, former KBS New Business Planning Director Lee Young-poong, and KBS Busan Broadcasting Bureau Choi Jae-hoon, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
A candidate must receive more than half of the votes among the 11 registered directors to be selected as the final candidate for KBS president, but no candidate received the majority of votes in the first round of voting following the interview.
Accordingly, following a 10-minute break, a runoff vote was scheduled to be held for former Munhwa Ilbo editorial writer Park Min and KBS Busan Broadcasting Bureau reporter Choi Jae-hoon, who received the most votes in the first round, but Chairman Seo Ki-seok declared a recess.
Opposition directors objected, saying that Chairman Seo unilaterally declared a recess following saying, “There are circumstances that Director Seok-rae Lee cannot avoid,” and that “he will be held accountable.”
The board of directors announced that it plans to hold a board meeting at 9 a.m. on the 6th to discuss the appointment of a president.
Meanwhile, the results of the preliminary injunction filed by former KBS CEO Kim Eui-cheol to suspend his dismissal are scheduled to be announced on the 20th.
