A year ago compact SUV Geely Binyue (aka Coolray in many foreign markets, including Russia) has already undergone light restyling, but then they only changed the plastic elements of the plumage and revised the equipment. Moreover, such machines never made it to Russia: we still sell Coolreys of the 2018 model. Now it’s time for a full-fledged modernization: the updated crossover is presented under the name Geely Binyue Cool.

This time, not only the bumpers have been changed, but also the headlights and taillights: they have become narrower, and the blocks at the stern are also connected by a luminous strip. The design of the front part is solved in the Energy storm style fresh for the brand (it used since last year), although this is another kind of “x-face”. There were new door sills, other moldings and wheels. With the new plumage, the length of the machine increased by 50 mm – up to 4380 mm.

The salon is completely new – and, alas, devoid of some of the original solutions that distinguished the former Coolray. For example, the geometric design of the central tunnel has been eliminated, and the door handles are no longer combined with handles. The instrument screen (10.25 inches) is now without a visor and is visually integrated with the display of the media system (12.3 inches). A new transmission selector has been installed, a wireless charger for gadgets has appeared.

An important metamorphosis took place under the hood. Instead of a three-cylinder 1.5 turbo engine (177 hp, 255 Nm in Chinese specification), Geely Binye Cool is equipped with a new BHE15 four-cylinder engine. This is the first product of a subsidiary Aurobay, which was formed last year by the merger of the engine divisions of Volvo and Geely. The turbo engine with a volume of 1499 cubes produces 181 hp. and 290 Nm, while it can run on “ninety-second” gasoline. So now the number of cylinders and pipes of the exhaust system is equal.

The transmission is the same: a seven-speed “robot” with two clutches and only front-wheel drive. With the new engine, the SUV became not only faster (acceleration time to “hundreds” was reduced from 7.9 to 7.6 s), but also more economical: passport fuel consumption for the NEDC cycle decreased from 6.3 to 5.8 l / 100 km .

The pre-reform Geely Binye is also offered in China with a junior 1.4 turbo engine (141 hp) and a hybrid installation, but these versions will be updated later. Binyue Cool will enter the home market in the fall, and export plans will be announced at the same time.
