A group here, a group there and there another group that nobody really needs anymore. WhatsApp is planning a new feature once morest zombie groups.
Munich – In analog office operations they are called file corpses. Papers and documents that are obsolete or forgotten. A lot of people certainly have a kind of card corpse on their smartphones. We are talking regarding long-expired WhatsApp chat groups that have not been used for weeks, months or even longer.
WhatsApp is apparently planning a new function that will make chats disappear
Expired WhatsApp chat groups are often at the bottom WhatsApp. They don’t do anything bad, just rob storage capacity. WhatsApp chat groups do not disappear on their own. In order to “get out” here, you have to consciously log out. A lot of people forget that or don’t do it. Because nobody wants to be the first to leave a group. You might still miss something. WhatsApp now seems to have addressed this problem. A new feature is intended to bring order to the filing system.
WhatsApp has also had new emojis for a few weeks now. Including a donkey and the flute. But which emojis are there?
Expiring groups – that’s behind the new WhatsApp function
How WABetaInfo writes in a new blog article, WhatsApp is testing a new feature called Expiring Groups. Loosely translated, this means something like “groups with an expiry date”. Many details of the new feature are not yet known. As screenshots show, the options for creating a new group also include the “Expiring Groups” variant.
It might look like this: If you want to set up a group for Grandma Erna’s 75th birthday, you may soon be able to set it to be automatically deleted following the corresponding date. In the trial version of the feature, it is also possible to let the group exist for a week or a month before it automatically deletes itself.
New WhatsApp feature – what does it bring to users?
The new function can help to improve the overview of WhatsApp chats. In particular, people who have many groups and many contacts might be supported in keeping order. At the same time, the feature – as a nice side effect – creates more memory in the app. (Ines Bauer)
