Update on the triple epidemic, flu, covid, bronchiolitis on Christmas Eve

A triple epidemic that spares no region

Throughout the territory this winter, three respiratory viruses are actively circulating. While Covid-19 and bronchiolitis were already weighing on hospitals, we now have to deal with the early arrival of the flu.

All regions are on “epidemic” alert, although disparities seem to appear in the evolution of diseases. The Covid key figures seem to be progressing less quickly than in previous weeks in view of the latest data published by Santé Publique France on new contaminations with a slight drop in the positivity rate.

Concerning the bronchiolitis figuresthe authorities believe “that the peak was reached last week”. Without speaking of certainty given the virulence of the epidemic which has led to levels of hospitalization not seen for 10 years.

The flu numbers meanwhile, surfaced earlier this year, adding new data to the picture and significantly increasing hospitalizations across the country. The situation observed on the eve of Christmas is usually that which sets in in the month of January.

Caution for families during the holiday season

During family reunions, care should be taken to protect infants and vulnerable people as a priority. Like last year, the realization of a covid self-test before the holidays is a relevant precautionary measure.

The immune system is weakened by lockdowns and other measures related to the global Covid pandemic. On the other hand, many events took place in closed places around the World Cup. The end-of-year festivities must not lead to the relaxation of barrier gestures. All this in order to avoid as much as possible having to resort to the services of on-call doctors et duty pharmacies.
