The Lebanese Minister of Interior said, on Thursday, that one of the sons of the late Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi is receiving medical care in a hospital in Lebanon, after he went on hunger strike two weeks ago, in protest of his imprisonment since 2015 without trial.

Hannibal was arrested in Lebanon after the Public Prosecutor accused him of concealing information about the fate of Imam Musa al-Sadr, a Lebanese Shiite cleric who disappeared during a trip to Libya in 1978.

Gaddafi’s son said he was a victim of injustice and that he was accused of a crime he did not commit. He announced his decision to go on hunger strike this month, when he was only two years old at the time of Musa al-Sadr’s disappearance.

Lebanon’s Shiites have long held the Gaddafi government, which was overthrown in 2011, responsible for al-Sadr’s disappearance, saying Libya had kidnapped him during the trip.

Lebanese Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi said that Hannibal Gaddafi was transferred on Wednesday from the security forces building, where he was being held, to the hospital, after security personnel in the building felt that his condition had deteriorated.

Reem Al-Dabri, Gaddafi’s client, said, “His condition is constantly deteriorating and deteriorating every day.” She added that he had nothing to do with al-Sadr’s disappearance, describing him as a “political hostage for undeclared purposes,” noting that he was “two years old” at the time of that incident.

Hannibal Gaddafi fled Libya in 2011 after the outbreak of a revolution against his father’s rule, eventually arriving in Syria, from which al-Dabri says he was kidnapped to Lebanon in 2015.

The rebels captured and killed Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

Al-Sadr, who Libya said had left the country safely, is widely believed to have been killed shortly after being taken into custody.

Al-Sadr founded the Shiite Amal Movement, which, along with the Hezbollah group, dominates Shiite politics in Lebanon, and is headed by Nabih Berri, Speaker of Parliament since 1980.
