The NHTSA’s site indicates that “the rearview camera screen may go blank for 6 to 8 seconds when the vehicle is placed in reverse” under certain conditions in specific vehicles. This delay “can impact rear visibility and heighten the risk of a collision,” the agency adds.

As of September 25, Tesla had reported 45 complaints regarding this issue after notifying authorities. The NHTSA noted that “Tesla is not aware of any accidents, deaths, or injuries that may be associated with this problem.”

Consequently, Tesla will implement a remote software update for 27,185 affected vehicles. This update pertains to Cybertruck models manufactured from November 13, 2023, to September 14, 2024.
