In April of this year we introduced you to the new Gardena robotic lawnmower smart SILENO with LONA technology (GPS-supported navigation). From the start, the manufacturer made it clear that not all GPS functions will be available at launch. Rather, these should be submitted step by step. In June brought an update the definition of restricted zones. Gardena has now made another update available that implements zone management.

Gardena robot lawn mower with LONA technology: Update brings zone management

Another update for the Gardena robotic lawnmowers with LONA technology is now available. Basically, it’s a two-part update. On the one hand, the Gardena smart app has received a server-side update and, on the other hand, a firmware update is available for the Gardena robotic lawnmowers with LONA technology. You don’t have to worry about the server-side update of the app, this is automatically available. However, you have to import the firmware update for the robotic lawnmower via the Gardena smart app, otherwise the zone management will not work. In our case, however, it was done with a few clicks and a short wait.

As soon as the firmware update is installed, you can use the zone management. You define a specific zone on the map and activate zone management for it (stay in zone).

Gardena provides the following information on this

  • Requirement: 1 starting point or the charging station is in the zone. Ideally, the starting point is in the middle of the zone.
  • The mowing frequency of this zone is taken from the mowing frequency defined for this starting point.
  • If your SILENO starts the mowing cycle in this zone, it tries to stay in this zone until the end of the cycle.
  • If your SILENO starts the mowing cycle outside of this zone, it tries to avoid this zone until the end of the cycle.
  • If your SILENO encounters resistance on its way to the starting point, it will start mowing in the zone in which it is located.
