Upcoming Rehabilitation Project on E429/A8 Motorway: Traffic Modifications and Improved User Comfort

2023-08-15 12:18:22

A project aimed at rehabilitating the lanes of the E429 / A8 motorway between Frasnes-lez-Anvaing and Tournai will be gradually implemented on Wednesday August 16, indicated the Complementary Infrastructure Financing Company (Sofico). The work, which will actually begin on Monday August 21, will modify traffic conditions in both directions. The Frasnes-lez-Anvaing interchange slip roads will be given priority before the start of the school year.

This project will cover a section of the motorway between interchange No. 31 “Frasnes-lez-Anvaing” to that of Tournai (E429/A8-E42/A16-E42/A8) towards France. Over some 14 km, it will concern both the right and left lanes and the hard shoulder.

Two layers of coating will be laid, instead of one, to improve user comfort. In the direction of Tournai, the exit and access ramps of interchange no. 31 will also be treated.

From August 21 until the end of November, only one lane will be maintained per direction with a maximum speed limited to 70 km/h between the two interchanges. Towards France, users will drive on the left lane on the side usually receiving traffic to Brussels. In the direction of Brussels, users will drive on the right lane. In the direction of Tournai, interchange no. 31 “Frasnes-lez-Anvaing” will be handled from Monday 21 to Sunday 27 August. It will therefore be impossible, in this direction, to use the access and exit ramps of the interchange. For the exit, a deviation is provided via the previous interchange and for access via the N529 and N48. The interchange will be free for the start of the school year.
