The 21-year-old American comedian, best known for his roles in David Makes Man and Billions, was arrested last week as part of a murder investigation.
The police suspect the young actor of having shot a 20-year-old man on July 20. The victim, Cesar Peralta, was fatally shot in the parking lot of a residential building in Houston. Rescue efforts unfortunately failed to revive the victim, who died on the scene.
The motive remains unknown
The motive remains unknown at this stage even though several witnesses reportedly saw the victim arguing with a man who fled the scene immediately after the gunfire, according to authorities. Akili McDowell is now being held on $400,000 bail in the Harris County Jail in Texas. According to the New York Times, he is scheduled to appear in court on October 9.
