German pediatricians are calling for the end of tests, masks and quarantine in schools
Before the federal-state meeting on the corona pandemic in Germany, paediatricians are calling for the abolition of the obligation to test and wear masks in schools. “So far, children and young people have paid a high price for the protection of the elderly through the constant testing and wearing masks, the cancellation of classes, the quarantine and the limited leisure opportunities,” said the chairman of the German Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Tobias Tenenbaum, the “Frankfurter General Newspaper».
After two years of the pandemic, that can no longer be justified, according to Tenenbaum. He is one of the signatories to an appeal by four medical societies, which, according to the FAZ, they want to publish at the Prime Minister’s Conference on Wednesday. In addition to the Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases, the Society for Pediatric Cardiology, for Hospital Hygiene and the Professional Association of Paediatricians also support the appeal.
In it, it is described as illusory to want to prevent every infection. That is not necessary either, since it “does not pose any uncontrollable dangers” for most vaccinated people. Instead, a “change of strategy” must take place in order to protect the critical infrastructure and risk groups in a targeted manner, the associations write, according to the FAZ.
As has already happened in some countries, the quarantine can be dispensed with in the educational institutions. It is enough “if the sick stay at home on their own responsibility, as was customary before the pandemic,” the newspaper quoted from the call.
