Share prices closed with a mild rise in today’s session at the Athens Stock Exchange as they failed to maintain their significant initial gains until the end.
The reason is that there were short-term profit-taking movements, after yesterday’s explosive rise in the Athens Stock Exchange. However, the market closed at new 9-year highs, moving against the downward movement of the European markets.
The General Price Index closed at 1,205.30 points, marking an increase of 0.33%. It is the highest close since the July 28, 2014 session (1,213.31 points). Intra-sessionally it recorded a higher price at 1,219.07 units (+1.48%). The value of transactions amounted to 222.12 million euros, of which 48.5 million euros related to transactions in packages, while 60,692,881 shares were traded.
The large-cap index rose marginally to 0.02%, while the mid-cap index gained 0.62%. Of the high capitalization stocks, the biggest increase was recorded by the shares of GEK TERNA (+4.84%), Piraeus (+4.09%), Aegean Airlines (+3.66%), Terna Energy (+ 2.56%) and EYDAP (+2.01%). On the contrary, the biggest drop was recorded by the shares of Ethniki (-3.43%), Jumbo (-2.17%), Ellaktor (-2.11%) and Sarantis (-1.50%).
Of the individual indices, the largest increase was recorded by the indices of Construction (+1.74%), Utilities (+1.01%) and Raw Materials (+0.93%), while the largest losses were recorded by indices of Personal Products (-2.03%) and Real Estate (-0.40%). Piraeus and Alpha Bank presented the largest volume of transactions, trading 19,697,731 and 17,531,548 shares, respectively. The highest value of transactions was recorded by Piraeus with 54.56 million euros and National with 27.36 million euros.
53 stocks moved up, 49 fell and 20 remained stable. The biggest increase was recorded by the shares: VIS +10.56% and HEXAE +5.11%. The biggest drop was registered by the shares: MIG -10.78% and Progressive -6.48%.
