There is something rotten in the jungle of carbon offsetting, worries a study published in Science. Far from keeping their climate promises, the carbon credits allocated on the basis of avoided deforestation in tropical regions would have been greatly overestimated: their real impact would be three times less significant than announced. A publication which supports the revelations, at the beginning of 2023, of a vast international investigation conducted by the Guardian.
