Washington: The United States says that the Chinese company Huawei is now unable to manufacture smartphones in large quantities using ultra-advanced chips. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said the U.S. government has not received any evidence that Huawei could make such new phones. They also stated that they are continuing to investigate how the Chinese company has made progress in using nanochips.
During a visit to China last month, Raimondo told US lawmakers he was upset by the news of Huawei’s Mate 60 Pro launch. “The only good news is that we have no evidence that China can produce 7-nanometer chips in large quantities,” she told the US House of Representatives. Smartphone analysts have speculated that Huawei may have found a way to circumvent US export restrictions. There were indications that the new achievement would be a milestone for China. But US officials have argued that the Chinese company poses a risk to US national security. Huawei has denied the US claims.
According to TechInsights, a Chinese research firm specializing in semiconductors, the 5G Kirin 9000s processor developed by China’s leading chipmaker Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) is included in the Huawei phone, a big win for China.
