CHENNAI – The Madras High Court has said that there is a misconception that promoting casteism and untouchability is Sanatana Dharma and that certain duties that Hindus have to fulfill are at the heart of it. Justice N. Sheshasai stated that if there are any mentions in favor of untouchability or caste discrimination, they are unconstitutional and cannot be allowed.
Sanatana Dharma includes duty to the nation, duty to parents and teachers. The bad practices associated with religion are weeds that need to be removed from time to time; But why destroy the crop completely? In exercising freedom of speech in matters of religion, care must be taken not to injure anyone. Freedom should not mean hatred.
The court also said that it is pointed out with the conviction that every citizen has a fundamental right to freedom of expression. The court was considering the petition once morest the circular issued by the Tiruvarur Government College asking to share the reasons for opposing Sanatana Dharma.
