The names of the new Sun King and the new carnival princess were unveiled on Saturday evening, under the marquee, and not, as usual, in front of the town hall of Houffalize. The rain has, in fact, invited itself to the induction evening of the 21st Carnival of the Sun and the organizers have activated their plan B.
After the departure of King Dubuiss’1st, Olivier Dubuisson, and Queen Vinch’1st, Vinciane Foguenne, the public joined by many representatives of carnival groups from the province and elsewhere, formed a guard of honor.
The Sun King, Lo 1er, alias Laurent Marchal, and Princess Estelle – Estelle Schloune – made a triumphant entrance to applause. They were welcomed by the president of the committee, Sylvie Dislaire, on the stage where the traditional speech of the new King was delivered.
This Sunday, from 3 p.m., Lo 1er and Princess Estelle will take part in the carnival procession in the streets of the City on the banks of the Ourthe. No less than 1200 participants will beat the pavement. The bands’ rondo will begin at 5:30 p.m., under a marquee in the parking lot of Houtopia. At the end of the 2023 edition, the ball hosted by Michel Meyer.
