With a re-adjusted stetson, a tossed coin, inspected cartridges, Steve McQueen had contrived, ten years earlier on the set of Seven Mercenaries, to steal the camera’s attention during Yul Brynner’s scenes, so the steely-eyed actor saw his Chinese friend coming from afar. “Your project is a film to make Bruce Lee a star. I like you, but that’s not my problem.”
Bruce Lee suffered a new disappointment in Hollywood. For years, he had been trying in vain to establish himself as an actor. Everyone knew him, he gave lessons at 275 dollars an hour to Steve McQueen but also to James Coburn, Roman Polanski, James Garner or Lee Marvin, he had appeared in a few episodes of Iron manof Batmanof Longstreethe had even choreographed the fights of Dean Martin and Sharon Tate in The Wrecking Crew.
