Jakarta – The horror film The First Omen has a terror that is different from usual horror films. This film uses the body horror genre, which shows horror through the human body.
Beware of Spoilers!
One of the scenes that made the most excitement was the moment when Margaret, the main character, witnessed a woman giving birth.
To her horror, when the woman gave birth, a demon’s hand came out of her vagina. This scene is shown in close-up and is quite long. In Indonesia, this scene passed censorship and was shown as is.
It turns out, the birthing scene was almost cut, you know! In the United States, the film censorship board (MPA) requested revisions of this film four times to censor or even remove this scene.
The thing is, if this scene had not been cut, the film might have received an NC-17 rating (only for ages 18 and over).
The First Omen production team of course doesn’t want their film to get that rating. They insisted that the birth scene remain and tried hard to get the film an R (mature) rating.
Finally, MPA gave up and allowed the scene to exist, but with the caveat that the duration was cut from 13 seconds to just 3 seconds.
For those of you who like horror films with brutal and bloody scenes, The First Omen might be an option.
But, remember, this film contains scenes that are not suitable for viewing by children and people who easily feel nauseous.
Other Horror Films in April
Apart from The First Omen, there are still several other horror films being released in Indonesian cinemas in April 2024. Among them are Badarawuhi in Penari Village (a prequel to KKN in Penari Village) and Siksa Kubur.
Badarawuhi in Penari Village tells the story of Mila and her relatives who searched for Penari Village in the 1980s to cure their mother’s illness.
However, they are terrorized by Badarawuhi, a powerful, mysterious dancing figure who is the guardian of the village. This film has been showing in cinemas since April 11, 2024.
Siksa Kubur is a classic Indonesian horror film that has been remade. This film tells the story of a group of young people who are trapped in a cemetery and terrorized by haunting spirits. The film hits theaters on April 12, 2024.
