Although Charlene von Monaco has been in the public eye for years, she remains strangely aloof. Even some Royal fans should therefore be surprised by these eleven unknown facts.

Charlène’s brother, Gareth Wittstock (41, left), according to information from vip.de, moved to Monaco ten years ago to “ensure that his sister is looked following”. According to Intouch.de, the princess calls her second brother, 40-year-old Sean Wittstock (right), every other day in South Africa. Gareth is not only Charlène’s family lifeline, he also works for Charlène’s foundation, the Princess of Monaco Foundation. He also accompanies his sister to public appointments, stands with her more often on the red carpet and never leaves her side. © Jean-Paul Pelissier/dpa2/11Swimming in blood Charlène von Monaco celebrated great successes in swimming before ending her career in 2007. She won two gold medals at the All Africa Games in Johannesburg in 1999 and competed at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. Incidentally, Charlène’s love of water is no coincidence. Her mother Lynette Humberstone used to work as a swimming instructor and gave her daughter a great passion for the wet element from the cradle. © str/dpa3 / 11Charlène loves jeans and shirts The tall (1.77 m) princess reliably attracts attention at countless events. Her style of clothing is considered extravagant but elegant. She never made fashion missteps. So it’s particularly surprising that Charlène says she’s not at all interested in fashion. In an interview with the South African magazine You, she emphasized that she doesn’t care much regarding styling and that she feels most comfortable in jeans and a sweatshirt. © E-PRESS PHOTO.com/dpa/Imago4 / 11Charlène cares regarding maintaining friendships Queen Máxima of the Netherlands and Charlène have had good contact for years and get along really well. Not much is said regarding her placings, although she did finish a respectable fifth in the 4x100m medley relay. However, she only finished 17th and 14th in the 100m and 200m backstroke competitions. After all, six years passed before the head of the Monegasque princely family presented Charlène as a woman at his side for the first time. In 2000, the two met at a swimming competition, but it was not until 2006 that Charlene officially appeared as Albert’s partner. Another five years should pass before the wedding. Charlène’s mother-in-law Grace Kelly was apparently a fan of another Krigler fragrance (“Chateau Krigler 12”). It is not known whether she took over the passion from her. © Valery Hache /dpa8 / 11Charlène is allowed to go to the Pope in white Charlène of Monaco is one of the few people who are allowed to face the head of the Catholic Church in white on special occasions. Only six other women from Catholic noble houses have the so-called “privilege du blanc”: Sofia of Spain, Paola of Belgium, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, Queen Mathilde of Belgium, Marina Ricolfi Doria, wife of Victor Emmanuel of Savoy, and Queen Letizia of Spain. The mother of two usually does without meat. As “The Royal Couturier” reports, she is more like a “part-time vegetarian”, because the native South African simply cannot say no to droëwors (air-dried sausage) and biltong (dried meat) from her homeland. Many royal fans were sure that the princess already regretted the yes word before she said it. The honeymoon is equal to the next “bankruptcy”. As an insider reported, the two even slept in separate hotels – regarding 15 kilometers apart. Albert had an early appointment and neither of them seemed to think that Charlène might stay at Albert’s hotel. © Monaco Princely Palace/ho/dpa Many secrets are hidden behind Charlène von Monaco’s often closed face (photomontage). © Valery Hache/dpa & str/dap

Monaco – Charlène of Monaco (45) has been the wife of Prince Albert II (63) since 2006 and is the dazzling figurehead of the Grimaldis. Even if the marriage of the former playboy and the native South African is constantly being questioned, the relationship has lasted for twelve years. Not only since the birth of her twins Jacques and Gabriella in 2014, and a protracted phase of illness that prevented the Monegasque by choice from making the journey home from South Africa to Monaco for months, she has been leading a life in the limelight. But despite the hype surrounding her, there are some facts regarding the Olympic swimmer that have remained largely unknown — at least until now.
