Last weekend, human bones were found on the banks of the Dnieper.

The Guardian says it might not independently identify the images but interviewed several historians for a more objective opinion. According to them, the bones that we see might well be the remains of soldiers who died during the Battle of Dnieper which took place in 1943.

This pitted Soviet soldiers once morest German soldiers. In figures, it’s 2.6 million Soviet soldiers, more than a million German soldiers, more than 300,000 dead on the Soviet side and between 400,000 and one million on the German side. On the material side, it is also 5,000 planes, 4,500 tanks and more than 60,000 artillery pieces. This battle is described as one of the greatest in history.

As for the place where the remains were found, it would be the place where the fighting was the hardest during the famous battle. In this area, “the losses of the Soviet troops varied from 30,000 to 60,000 people, and those of the German troops reached 20,000 people”, explained a historian.

According to historians, these were German remains that were found because the Soviets buried their dead where the bodies of the Germans were “abandoned in place”. During the construction of the Kakhovka dam in 1956, part of the remains then disappeared under water.

However, it will not be possible for historians to travel and observe these important discoveries before the end of the war.
