“Inhuman ideology”
If the Young SVP do not systematically distance themselves from the radical group “Junge Tat” and the Austrian right-wing extremist Martin Sellner, this would prove that they are in cahoots, writes Socialist Youth president Nicola Siegrist. “By flirting with the extreme right, the leadership of the Young UDC is fraternizing with an ideology that is inhuman and dangerous for our society,” believes the co-president of the Young Vert’liberals Gwenaël Richard.
In mid-March, Aargau police prevented a conference of the “Junge Tat” group and activist Martin Sellner from taking place in Tegerfelden (AG), who was arrested and expelled. The Young Aargau UDC then showed solidarity with the Austrian, which sparked criticism. The section ultimately distanced itself from far-right positions.

“Internal matters are handled internally”
On Tuesday, six German-speaking cantonal sections of the Young UDC distanced themselves from extremist groups. The ideologies of all political extremes have no place in the party’s values, the Säntis (Appenzell Ausserrhoden), Graubünden, Schaffhausen, Thurgau, Solothurn and Basel-Stadt sections underlined in a press release.
The six sections are asking the head of strategy of the Young UDC Sarah Regez to step back from her post for the moment. According to the Sonntagsblick of March 31, the Basel resident participated in a secret meeting with Martin Sellner, at which members of the “Junge Tat” were also present. A possible resignation or exclusion from the party leadership must be taken into consideration.
Asked Tuesday by Keystone-ATS, the new president of the Young UDC Switzerland Nils Fiechter did not wish to take a position: “Internal questions are handled internally within the Young UDC Switzerland,” replied the Bernese.
