This is almost the first such comprehensive anthology of contemporary Lithuanian literature in French, which includes the latest literature of different generations: from the works of the poet Tomas Venclova or the prose writer Undinė Radzevičiūtė, who have already established themselves in the history of Lithuanian literature, to the works of the younger generation of writers – the poet Tomas Petrulis or the prose writer Ieva Dumbrytė.
Selected texts cover 2020-2024. period. Literary critics Jūratė Čerškutė (prose) and Neringa Butnoriūtė (poetry) discuss the Lithuanian literary processes of this period. In the magazine, you can also find an interview with the translator Marielle Vitureau, an unexpected conversation between two prose writers – Danutė Kalinauskaitė and Jurga Tumasonytė, an essay by Vytautas Bikulčiaus about the image of Paris in Lithuanian literature, as well as – lists of important events, prizes, books by significant Lithuanian authors already published in France.
The design of the publication was created by Jurgis Griškevičius. His design for the English issue of the previous issue of Vilnius Review won the Wooden Pencil award at the international D&AD design awards this year.
The anthology will be presented at literary and translation festivals in Paris and Lyon already this fall, and it is planned to be sold in more important bookstores in France, Belgium, and Switzerland.
The presentation of the number in Vilnius will take place on September 19, at 18:00. In the courtyard of the French Institute. Editors Dainius Gintalas, Saulius Vasiliauskas, Marius Burokas, translators Caroline Paliulis, Thibault Jacquot-Paratte, writers Danutė Kalinauskaitė, Gytis Norvilas, Ieva Dumbrytė and Tadas Zaronskis will participate.
The publication and its dissemination are financed by the Lithuanian Cultural Council, the Lithuanian Cultural Institute, Lithuanian Season in France.
