A new world is coming soon in the world of bitcoin mining, there is no doubt regarding it. Bitmain, the world’s leading manufacturer of bitcoin mining machines, presented the latest family of Antminer products, the S21 series. The series currently consists of two products, the water-cooled version of the S21 Hyd and the air-cooled version of the S21. The S21 Hyd is capable of up to 335 terahas per second, and its efficiency is around 16 joules per terahas. The air-cooled version can deliver 200 terahas per second and has an efficiency index of 17.5 joules per terahas. Currently, no one can compete with Bitmain’s S21 machines The S21 presented at the 2023 Digital Mining Summit in Hong Kong is the answer to the Avalon mining machines recently presented by Canaan. And the answer is pretty snappy, because even the liquid-cooled machine of Canaan works with an efficiency index of 19.5 joules per terahash, the air-cooled one is well above 21 joules per terahash. It seems that the competition between the leading mining machine manufacturers will be in efficiency, not in performance. Because Microbt’s designed M53S++ liquid-cooled machine also easily achieves the same performance as the S21, but its efficiency is around 22 joules per terahash. In other Bitmain related news, the company has invested $54 million in Core Scientific through a new supplier agreement. 27,000 bitcoin mining machines will be delivered to Core Scientific within the framework of the contract. Of course, the machines will not be from the S21 series, but the machines bearing the name S19J XP. They are capable of quite fair performance of 151 terahas per second with an efficiency index of 21.7 joules per terahash. In the bitcoin mining market, therefore, a huge step up is expected, so big that competition with the biggest becomes unattainable for many.
