Football scout and coach Francis Cagigao, former England star, said that Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi tried many times to bring him to Arsenal club, but it was not possible.
Cagigao said that it was when Messi was playing in Barcelona’s youth club and that he had talks with Argentina’s representative, Horacio Gaggioli. This was reported by the news agency Metro.
“Messi’s situation was not favorable then. He did not have a work permit in the UK. We had several meetings with Horazio Gaggioli for this purpose. But it was not going to happen,’ Kagigao said.
At the same time, he said that he had tried to bring former Barcelona star Gerard Pique to the club. Cagigao said that it did not happen because of bureaucratic problems and Cesc Fabregas would have been brought into the team instead.
“We were unable to sign Pique due to some bureaucratic issues. In the end, we acquired Fabregas from that great team called Barca,’ he said.
Fabregas would go on to become a standout at Arsenal and would go on to become one of the club’s greatest midfielders of all time. Currently playing for Serie B side Como, Fabregas has scored 57 goals and provided 95 assists in 303 appearances for Arsenal.
