Patients developed a prolonged and debilitating cough.

This season in Russia, many people are suffering from unusually long colds. The patients’ cough began in September and has not gone away to this day.

Experts note common features in all patients: the voice disappeared for several days, the temperature rose to 37.5 degrees, the general health was extremely poor. After the temperature dropped, people developed a long and debilitating cough that did not go away for weeks.

However, tests for coronavirus remained negative, and the nature of the disease was significantly different from the flu.

In October, scientists from Queen Mary University of London identified a similar infection. A survey among patients showed that 22% of respondents were faced with a long-term course of the disease. Cough, fatigue, diarrhea, abdominal pain and hoarse voice were the most severe symptoms. The virus was also not detected.

Infectious disease specialist Nikolai Malyshev said “MK”that I have not heard regarding the new virus. According to him, patients with long-term manifestations of ARVI are always encountered in doctors’ practice. The reasons may vary from person to person and may sometimes be associated with taking low doses of medication.

For example, with adenovirus, the disease can occur in waves, recovery takes a long time, and a protracted course can be caused by a mixed infection.

There are also more and more cases of coronavirus in Russia.
