Unusual Construction and Dual Use of Cables Near Vaux-sur-Sûre Municipal School: Latest Updates and Future Springboard Accommodations

This is an image that has surprised more than one Rosièrois and other passers-by in recent days near the village’s municipal school: the overhead electric cables that cross a new construction. More specifically, the future springboard housing of the Municipality of Vaux-sur-Sûre. Should we see a new concept of dual use of cables, to dry clothes in the attic? Of course not. No question either of a singular error.

It is more a matter of schedules between the Jonckeau company, which is carrying out the work, and ORES, the network manager. “ORES had to remove the cables at the end of August to lay them underground, that’s what was plannedexplains Mayor Yves Besseling. But they didn’t know how to do it at that time. Since, for its part, the Jonckeau company wanted to move forward before winter, it made arrangements with ORES to be able to continue the work.” However, it will be necessary to wait a bit to see the unusual image disappear since “ORES should come at the end of October to bury the cables”. In the meantime, construction continues. “The springboard accommodations, which are five in number, should be rented around September 2024, indicates the mayor. The terms of allocation and the regulations governing these springboard accommodations, which are therefore intended for young families, will be submitted to the elected officials of the municipal council by then.

Very close to the sidewalk…

In the meantime, many are surprised by another aspect of this building: the close proximity of the corner of the building to the sidewalk. The mayor wants to be clear, it is not a will of the Commune: “It is an urban planning permit that we obviously cannot issue to ourselves. It goes through the Walloon Urban Planning Department, in Arlon. And it was not the easiest to obtain it because the agents had quite a few specific constraints. They only issued the permit under these conditions.” And Yves Besseling to take the opportunity to specify that “We also have similar remarks for other permits, on being close to the road, but the Commune has no choice compared to current standards”.

The fact is that this position of the building, in a long bend rising to the left when coming from the school, does not facilitate the vision of motorists, especially since they must, in addition, deal with three bins creating a narrowing in the road.

“We will adapt the position of the bins if necessary, once the construction site is finished, says the mayor. But more generally, it comes down to the will of Town Planning, which wants to create door effects to slow down the speed.

Be that as it may, the initial budget for these stepping stones is €1.1 million, for a subsidy of €700,000 and a contribution of €400,000 from equity.
