Report that the brown eyes of a newborn who was treated for covid turned blue. The study report comes from Thailand. It is indicated that the baby has a normal covid infection. Doctors gave medicine for three days to the baby who had fever and cough. After giving the medicine, the covid symptoms disappeared, but following 18 hours, the mother felt that the color of the baby’s eyes was slowly changing. It is clear that the baby’s eyes have turned blue in color from a very dark brown color.
When the doctor was informed regarding the changes in the baby’s eyes, he was asked to stop the medication called Favipiravir. Reports also show that within five days of stopping the medication, the original dark brown color of the eyes returned.
However, this type of discoloration did not appear on the baby’s skin, nails, nose or mouth. In 2022, the Thai Ministry of Public Health approved the use of Favipiravir for the treatment of Covid-19 in children. Reports indicate that a similar incident has occurred in India in 2021.
