Unusual bankruptcy: Children had to be sent on summer vacation with sad news

The closure of the private institution was supposed to be a result of a falling number of children, says Jacob Poulsen Mark, who is the curator of the bankruptcy estate.

Naturbørnehuset Søstjernen is located in Hjortdal, which has around 130 inhabitants. It is an integrated institution with both nursery and kindergarten.

In the spring of 2023, 23 kindergarten children and 11 nursery school children left, who have now had to find a new institution.

At the same time, the three adults in the kindergarten and three adults in the nursery have had to find a new workplace.

Jacob Poulsen Mark has so far only managed to speak to the board over the phone.

– You have worked to have more children, but it has not been successful. That is why they have chosen to send children and employees home with that message before the summer holidays, Jacob Poulsen tells Mark.

He must now start looking more closely at the bankruptcy.

He states that toys and other equipment will be put up for sale at an online auction at a later date.

Naturbørnehuset Søstjernen has been independently owned since 2017, when Jammerbugt Municipality chose to close the municipal kindergarten.

At the last inspection report in 2023, the orphanage had a norm of 3.5 children per adult.

Nordjyske has tried to get a comment from the educational manager of Naturbørnehuset Søstjernen, but she has not returned the inquiry.

Their website has also been shut down over the weekend.
