Stimulus checks in California will be delivered starting in 2023. Through the Middle Class Refund Program, these payments targeted at families sought to mitigate the negative impact of inflation.
However, a report published a few weeks ago showed that at least 624,000 residents in California have not received their stimulus checks. Given this situation, a deadline was set for debiting this money.
Deadline to collect stimulus checks
As established by the California authorities, the deadline to collect the stimulus checks will be until April 30, 2026. This money will be condensed in prepaid debit cards. The amounts received range between $200 and $1,050 dollars per family.
The Middle Class Refund Program had established that stimulus checks would be delivered by September 2023, but since $125 million is still pending, the deadline has been extended, a situation that also worries local authorities.
This stimulus check was distributed in direct deposits, for a total amount of $4 billion, but also on prepaid debit cards. While most of them have already been activated, 3.5% requested to be changed to paper checks, resulting in 624,000 undecrypted cards.
The California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) is working on how to tackle this problem, as they are concerned that cards are expiring without being charged. One of their methods is to send reminders and give advice on this.
