Until the end of the year the orange invoices

This new option, in which billing will be done in real time, even every 15 minutes, and not in daily averages, is expected to be available by the end of the year.

Through this tariff, citizens will be able to reduce costs by shifting – as far as possible – consumption to hours when energy is cheap, in this case midday, when prices drop due to overproduction of photovoltaics.

Nevertheless, consumers should have smart meters available to them. Currently, only 600,000 of the 7 million meters in the network belong to this category, as DEDDIE has delayed the implementation of the relevant program that has been announced for a decade.

When will the orange tariffs for residential consumers come into effect?

According to the report, for residential consumers, the orange dynamic tariffs will be phased in and completed by the end of the decade.

Essentially, household consumers will know from the previous day the fluctuation of prices and will be able to plan the use of electrical appliances during the hours when the price will be low. For this to happen, there should also be smart devices that can be activated remotely, with the Ministry of the Interior considering a subsidy program for replacing household devices with smart ones.

The Ministry of Environment and Energy aims to complete the regulatory framework for orange tariffs by the end of October.

At the same time, the ministry is also promoting a plan to transfer the night tariff to the day, specifically during the lunch hours, when the wholesale price of electricity is cheaper. The most likely scenario is for the lowest rates to move to the 14:00-16:00 zone.
