Looking for ideas from 5 to 20 year olds for the city

Vienna (OTS) – The City of Vienna and Vienna-Xtra are calling on all creative minds between the ages of 5 and 20 to submit their ideas for a more livable future for their city. Young Viennese people have the opportunity to submit their suggestions, projects and visions online until November 15th einreichen.junges.wien to introduce.

1 million for young ideas
So far, over 130 ideas have been submitted by young Viennese people, the topics range from dirt jump parks, to oases of well-being, more city trees, cycling playgrounds, public viewing and even street lights for more safety. In 2024, voting will take place online and the best ideas will then be implemented with a city budget of 1 million euros. The Children and Youth Million strengthens the participation opportunities of young people and is a best practice example for Vienna as a candidate for the title of European Capital of Democracy.

Vice Mayor and Youth City Councilor Christoph Wiederkehr: “The Children and Youth Million is proof of how the needs and ideas of young people are specifically taken up in our city and implemented into concrete changes. The projects are a shining example of how the influences of the young generation are already positively changing the city.”

For the second time, the Children and Youth Million enables young Viennese to decide on a city budget of 1 million euros and to help shape important issues for their future. Examples of three ideas that have already been implemented from last year:

Nada Taha Ali Mohamed, Director of Young Vienna at Vienna-Xtra, emphasized the importance of the active participation of children and young people: “It’s great to see how young people’s ideas become reality and how important their participation in the implementation is. The collaboration between various city institutions and the young idea submitters permanently strengthens the awareness of the needs of children and young people.”

About the million children and young people

What are the general conditions for the millions of children and young people?

The ideas must be legal and in line with the city’s strategies. Children and young people between the ages of 5 and 20 who live in Vienna can play. Clubs, kindergarten groups and school classes can also submit. No permanent staff may be necessary and the proposed ideas should cost at least over 50,000 euros if implemented and serve the common good. The project is about participation and democracy education.
